Investigation of failure mechanism of a DCI engine connecting rod

نویسندگان

چکیده

In reciprocating engines, connecting rod cap and bolts are critical as they exposed to varying loads under different operating conditions. This paper focused on the failure of a 1.5 dci K9K diesel engine. As result engine for approximately 378400 km, was broken, reasons bolt were investigated. The designed in accordance with dimensions SolidWorks software then exported ANSYS stress fatigue analysis. Also, macrostructure broken We knew that mechanic who fixed about two years ago tightened without using torque meter. Therefore, analyzes performed determine effect tightening torques (ranging from 22.5 52.5 Nm) at 2000 rpm. According numerical analysis results, increasing torque, maximum equivalent alternating values increased significantly, while safety factor cyclic life decreased. First, fracture occurred right hand bolt. Immediately after, lower cup deformed crashed cylinder liner. brittle left shoulder shank. chevron markings clearly visible evidence fracture.

Process capability improvement of an engine connecting rod machining process

Statistical process control is an excellent quality assurance tool to improve the quality of manufacture and ultimately scores on end-customer satisfaction. SPC uses process monitoring charts to record the key quality characteristics (KQCs) of the component in manufacture. This paper elaborates on one such KQC of the manufacturing of a connecting rod of an internal combustion engine. Here th...

Stress and Fatigue of Connecting Rod in Light Vehicle Engine

The connecting rod (CR) is the main moving parts and an important component of engine. If the reliability is not strong enough, fatigue failure of the CR would occur, thereby leading to component fracture and engine failure. So much so that CR fracture. It will lead to engine fault as well as serious outcome. In this paper, stress distribution and fatigue life of CR in light vehicle engine were...

Process-based tolerance assessment of connecting rod machining process

Process tolerancing based on the process capability studies is the optimistic and pragmatic approach of determining the manufacturing process tolerances. On adopting the define–measure–analyze–improve–control approach, the process potential capability index (C p) and the process performance capability index (C pk) values of identified process characteristics of connecting rod ...

Study and Simulation of Shot peening Effect on Fatigue Life of a Powder Forged Connecting rod

Shot peening applies a residual compressive stress field (RCSF) on the surface of parts. It also shifts “crack nucleation sites” to sub-surface locations. A nondestructive method of measuring the stresses, Sin2ψ was utilized here and the stress values introduced to Ansys software. For this purpose, uniform stress in all directions was applied on the con rod. Loading on the rod in Ansys had thre...
